One of the most frequent requests I receive from the Check for Insects website is to make a printable Check for Insects guide available.
I have now created a Check for Insects ebook which is available on our website as a free download. Please download it, read it, and distribute it. And, of course, feedback is always appreciated and helpful.

When I first created the Check for Insects site, it was meant to be a tool for the kosher consumer. Almost immediately we began to receive a large number of email asking why one would need to check for bugs. It seems our site had become popular and many visitors were not kosher consumers and wondered if the insects are harmful to one’s health. To address this, I am putting together a page that describes why we check food for insects and explains how we decide the proper cleaning and checking method for each food item.
UPDATE – This feature has been added.

Currently, videos are only viewable in the browser. I plan to make them all downloadable. I just have to decide on the format I want and then set aside time to convert everything.

Even though I am a Firefox person, I test all my pages in Explorer since 60% of the World still uses it. I missed this one, though, until a user emailed me about it.
In Firefox, printing a page prints the information on the page (pretty exciting!). In Internet Explorer (I use IE8) some pages print properly, some leave out sections, and one (as far as I have tested) crashes IE when the print icon is pressed. Everything appears normal on the screen.
Here are the details:
- Barley prints fine.
- Asparagus cuts off after the title and leaves the remainder of the printed page blank. It picks up again on the second page with the pictures (no section title of Insect Pictures, though)
- Strawberries cuts off after the title and leaves the remainder of the printed page blank. It picks up again on the second page with the section title of Video Clips. It shows the video clip image but moves the caption down and to the right.
- Broccoli cuts off after the title and leaves the remainder of the printed page blank. It picks up again on the second page with the Video Clips title. But leaves out the text, “There are no pictures currently available.“
- Bok Choy crashes IE when the print button is pressed.
I tried it in IE8 on XP, Vista, and Windows 7. All had the same issues.
As far as I figure, if a div runs over to the second page, the whole div is skipped and the next page starts with the next div.
