When I first created the Check for Insects site, it was meant to be a tool for the kosher consumer. Almost immediately we began to receive a large number of email asking why one would need to check for bugs. It seems our site had become popular and many visitors were not kosher consumers and wondered if the insects are harmful to one’s health. To address this, I am putting together a page that describes why we check food for insects and explains how we decide the proper cleaning and checking method for each food item.

Very interesting about cleaning strawberries in soapy water. When the video shows cutting off the tops, with some flesh beneath, I am thinking I would then rinse the knife thoroughly after each cut is made.
